Gas vs Electric


    We all love it after a long day at work (said no-one ever). It’s a chore that needs to be done, so its best we can get it done in the easiest and most economical way possible. There are 2 options on how you decide to slave away in the kitchen. Gas or Electric. Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of both.




    • Heats quickly, as you are using a flame the heat is instant. Saving time and running cost in the kitchen.
    • Fuel source, gas runs off either natural or LPG gas, these both are reasonably cheap and are clean burning. Saving you money on your energy bills.
    • Broiling temperatures, broiling temperatures are not as even at electric, causing some unevenness to your food.


    • Heat distribution, heat rises, so your ovens usually cook with inconsistent temperatures. This means you have to turn or rotate the food more often.
    • Flame stability, if you have your cooker running near an open window, the wind can either blow out your flame or reduce the heat this can get a little frustrating.
    • Difficult to clean, cleaning a gas cook top involves moving parts. If these are not assembled properly you may find yourself calling a gasfitter because you think there is a problem with your cooktop.



    • Easy to clean. Electric cooktops have a smooth surface with no parts to move, making it easy to clean. Simply spray and wipe.
    • Ignition, electric cookers do not have an ignition system. Turn the knob and wait for it to heat up.
    • Extra feature, electric ovens and cookers generally come with extra features, such as fifth element to keep your plates warm, fans and grillers.
    • Heat distribution, an electric oven generally cooks better than gas. The heat is more evenly distributed.


    • Power, if the power goes out you can’t cook
    • More expensive to run, electric cookers are usually more expensive to run
